[5] THE KANO CITY WALL
The Kano city wall was built in about 15 century A.D, and has a circumference of 17.5 km consisting of 16 gates that protect this ancient city at that time that it used to be the
centre of trade towards North Africa across the Sahara. Within the walls is the Gidan Makom Museum which is a national monument of great architectural excellence. The ancient city of Kano itself is a crowded commercial city that is populated not just with people, but also ancient structures that exhibit the culture of Hausa people of Northern Nigeria and their dominant religion, Islam.
Sarki {King} Gijimasu laid foundation for the construction of the walls from 1095-1134 in order to provide security for the city and its inhabitants. Other features that are synonymous with the ancient city of Kano are the Dalla Hills which is a site of an ancient settlement dating back to as far as the 10th Century A.D the Dalla Hill is regarded as  the source of the evolution of many Hausa kingdoms, and a prominent factor of the civilization of the Western African region. Other features are the Emir’s Palace which is the symbol of power and authority, and then the Kurmi market which is known to be one of the oldest and largest local market in Africa.
