TOP TEN PLACES TO VISIT IN NIGERIA


Nigeria is a country that is strategically placed on the western coast of Africa, bordering countries like Chad and Niger in the North, with a glimpse of the Sahara desert. Cameroon stands on the
Eastern border, Benin Republic on the West, and the mighty Atlantic Ocean covers the South.
This is a country that is soaked in cultural and ethnic diversity, with over 250 tribes and 450 languages. As there are many ethnic groups, so are the tourist attractions in Nigeria. Many which have been hidden from the eyes of the world by the not too good news that is frequently produced and shipped by the media. Here is a list of the “Ten Must visit tourist Destinations” that no one is willing to let the world know about. From the Osun-Oshogbo Sacred grove, to the Yankari Game Reserve, the list contains places with great history, tradition, mystery, and mind boggling facts.

NUMBER ONE
[1] NATIONAL WAR MUSEUM
 The national war museum is located in Ebite Amafor in Isingwu autonomous community in Umuahia the Abia State Capital and has the highest collection of Nigerian collection of the Nigerian civil war weapons that are no longer in use today.
          The place has become a major tourist site due to the large collection it has on various weapons that were used by both the Nigerian military and the Biafran military as well.  The museum is located where the Ojuku bunker that houses the shortwave radio “The voice of Biafra” was transmitted during the Nigerian Civil war {1967-1970}
The museum was commissioned in 1985; it is made up of three galleries that cover:
1-    Traditional warfare
2-    The armed forces
3-    The Nigerian civil war weapons gallery.
          Among many artifacts available include, weapons used during the pre-colonial disturbances, warfare, materials used during communal and inter-tribal wars and those of the Nigerian civil war.
Things such as: military uniforms, pictures of past military leaders, “The Biafran flag”, Nigerian leaders that were victims of the war, the huge transmitter of “Radio Biafra”.
The ‘Ojukwu Bunker’, as it is popularly called was built by major General Odumegbu Ojukwu during the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970). It was a perfect “decoy” thus, very difficult for enemy aircraft to locate without any prior information, due to the undulating hills in the area.

In fact, the National war museum is a must see for everyone.
